LOS ANGELES – UCLA Football will play host to the Colorado Buffaloes this Saturday, November 2 at the Rose Bowl Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. PT. The Veteran and Armed Forces Appreciation game marks the 23rd consecutive year UCLA will honor those who serve.
All active duty members of the U.S. Armed Forces and veterans can receive a free ticket to the game by showing their military ID at the Rose Bowl ticket office on game day, at the Central Ticket Office on campus in advance, or by registering online at www.uclabruins.com/FBmilitary.
Parking lots for UCLA vs. Colorado Gameday presented by Wescom will open at 12:00 p.m. Fans are strongly encouraged to plan ahead and pre-purchase parking online here for a $5 discount off on-site pricing.
The Rose Bowl, recently named college football's greatest stadium by Sports Illustrated, offers one of the best tailgating experiences in college football, with a variety of options for pre-game celebrations. New this year, Rose Bowl Concessionaire, Levy Restaurants, is operating the brand-new "Country Store" in the Arroyo Tailgate area on the golf course, adjacent to the Brookside clubhouse. This is a go-to stop for all fans' tailgating needs. No need to worry about leaving something at home.
The Fan Zone in Lot H opens at 1:45 p.m., offering a wide variety of public activities and photo opportunities. This weekend, the 2015 and 2019 Women's World Cup Trophies will be available for fan photo opportunities in the Fan Zone.The Victory Bell also will be available for fan photo opportunities pregame in the Fan Zone, then in the Court of Champions inside Gate A. Fans should be sure to check out the UCLA/Under Armour Photo Booth, also at Gate A.
The UCLA Football team will arrive at the Rose Bowl via Arroyo Blvd. where they will depart the bus outside Gate A. Fans are encouraged to cheer on the Bruins along the west side of Arroyo. Tentative timing is planned for 2.5 hours prior to kick-off, but fans should follow @UCLAGameday on Twitter for the most up to date information, and all their Rose Bowl gameday needs.
UCLA Athletics is proud to join our institution in celebrating UCLA's Centennial all season long. The football team will mark the Centennial with a UCLA 100 helmet sticker for every game, and a UCLA 100 jersey patch for all home games.
This Saturday, UCLA will host the national law enforcement training program, Game Changer, at the Rose Bowl. Game Changer brings together members of law enforcement and members of the general public three hours before the start of collegiate and professional sporting events to participate in moderated focus groups to discuss problems and devise solutions together. At the conclusion of the focus group, all participants watch the game together to spend additional time communicating in a casual environment.
Rose Bowl gates open at 4:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to enter the Rose Bowl early. The first 4,000 fans to enter on Saturday will receive a McDonald's voucher good for one free breakfast sandwich. As a reminder, enhanced screening procedures, including the use of electronic security equipment at all gates, have been implemented at UCLA Football games. The Clear Bag Policy limits the size and type of bags that may be brought into the Rose Bowl. The policy is designed to provide more consistent screening and to expedite fan entry.
The Rose Bowl, in partnership with concessionaire Levy Restaurants, introduced more than 10 new concession items to the menu throughout the stadium this season. Additions include Acai Bowls, Continental Empanadas, "The Arroyo" Turkey Sandwich, and a Beyond Bratwurst – a great vegan option for fans. Fans can also find value-priced concessions in two locations. Value-priced $3 nachos and hot dogs and discounted fountain beverages will be on sale near tunnels 8 and 21.
Saturday's honorary captain is 2019 UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Skip Hicks, who earned first-team All-America honors in 1997 and still holds UCLA Football records for career touchdowns (55) and single-season touchdowns (26 in 1997), both of which were also Pac-10 records at the time. He also finished his career with 3,140 yards rushing (No. 6 in school history) and 330 points (No. 3 in school history). As a fifth-year senior in 1997, Hicks led the Bruins to the Pac-10 title and compiled a team-high 1,282 rushing yards with seven 100-yard games. He was selected by the Washington Redskins in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft and played four years in the league for Washington and Tennessee.
Fans should be in their seats by 5:30 p.m. to witness pregame festivities including a flyover by a trio of MH-60S helicopters and a National Anthem performance by the UCLA Marching Band.
UCLA Veteran of the Year Dan Nelson will be honored during the first quarter break, as part of the Veteran and Armed Forces Appreciation events. Nelson played linebacker and fullback for UCLA from 2004-07, also serving as a team captain. After graduating from UCLA, he joined the U.S. Army and became an airborne infantry platoon leader and later a U.S. Army Green Beret, serving all over the world, including in Iraq and Afghanistan. In August 2017, Nelson's entire Special Forces team was killed or wounded in a catastrophic event while fighting ISIS-K extremists in Afghanistan. He was awarded the Silver Star, the nation's third-highest award for valor in combat, for his actions in the wake of that event.
At halftime, the newest class of inductees into the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame will be recognized on the field. This group comprises Jill Ellis (women's soccer), Peter Fleming (men's tennis), Tairia Mims Flowers (softball), Skip Hicks (football), Courtney Mathewson (women's water polo), Adam Naeve (men's volleyball), and Kristee Porter (women's volleyball/basketball/track & field). They will have been inducted into the Hall of Fame the night prior during a ceremony on campus.
Also during halftime, the UCLA Marching Band will perform a show that will conclude with the unfurling of a giant 100-yard American flag. Other breaks during the game will feature a recognition of Operation Mend, and additional veteran recognition.
