Men's Tennis Heads to Easley, Kramer Tournaments

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team will be back in action this week, as it sends eight players to the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational and the Larry Easley Memorial Classic. Play from the Kramer Club in Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. begins Thursday and runs through Sunday, while the Fertitta Tennis Complex in Las Vegas hosts Easley Classic matches Friday through Sunday.
Staying local will be senior Ben Goldberg, sophomore Eric Hahn, junior Connor Hance, sophomore Mathew Tsolakyan and sophomore Patrick Zahraj.
Heading to the desert will be the trio of redshirt freshman Blaine Hovenier, redshirt junior Connor Rapp and sophomore Max Wild.
LAST TIME OUT
Six Bruins participated in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships Thursday, Oct. 17-Sunday, Oct. 20 and left with round-of-16 showings in both the singles and doubles tournaments. Each player and both doubles teams notched at least one win at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center in Malibu, Calif. Goldberg picked up a pair of singles wins, including a 6-3, 6-7(9), 6-1 defeat of UC Santa Barbara's Joseph Rotheram to reach the round of 16. The tandems of Rapp/Wild and Zahraj/Drew Baird were among the final 16 doubles participants.

A field of 32 doubles duos will begin play Thursday at 8:30 a.m., PT, while a 64-player singles tournament will get underway at 10 a.m.
The pairs of Goldberg/Zahraj and Hahn/Tsolakyan earned first-round byes and will get started Friday at 8:30 a.m.
On the singles side, Tsolakyan will face off against Ben Gajardo of BYU in first-round play at 10 a.m. Thursday. Goldberg, Hahn, Hance and Zahraj got free passes to the Thursday's second round. Goldberg is the only Bruin with a set second-round opponent in Nick Lagaev of Arizona. That match will begin Thursday at 4 p.m.
MORE ON EASLEY CLASSIC
Competitors from SMU, Arizona State, Loyola Marymount, Mesa Community College and host UNLV will converge on Vegas, with two flights each of singles and doubles matches in store. There will also be consolation play. One round of doubles play and two rounds of singles action will happen Friday, with play getting underway at 9 a.m., PT. Saturday will see two doubles rounds and one singles round occur, also beginning at 9 a.m. The championship matches will be held Sunday, starting at 10 a.m.
Rapp will look to build off a strong showing at the 2018 tournament, where he reached the Flight One singles final before losing to UNLV's Olle Thestrup in three sets.
