WEEK IN REVIEW
UCLA enjoyed a bye last week. The Bruins last played on Nov. 3, suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of No. 5 Stanford. By the time of kick off on Saturday, UCLA will have gone 13 days between games.
EARLY STARTERS
Early goals have been a common occurence in UCLA games so far this season. A goal has been scored by either UCLA or the opponent within the opening 10 minutes in 10 of UCLA's 17 games this year (59%).
TOUGH ROAD
UCLA has played one of the toughest schedules in the country this season. Entering the weekend, UCLA's past opponents have accrued a .630 winning percentage, second-highest in the NCAA (Virginia Tech - .635). The Bruins are one of just two west coast teams in the top 10 (LMU - .614). UCLA has played four of the top 10 teams in this week's TopDrawerSoccer rankings (No. 2 Georgetown, No. 4 Stanford, No. 5 Washington, and No. 8 Indiana).
BRUINS HELPING BRUINS
UCLA has scored 28 goals so far this season, accruing 33 assists along the way. The Bruins' 1.2 assists per goal is tied for fourth-best in the nation (Michigan leads the NCAA at 1.3). UCLA has recorded at least one assist on 23 of 28 team goals, including 10 tallies with two assists.
ILOSKI MAKES HISTORY AGAINST SDSU
Milan Iloski made school history on Oct. 6 in a contest against San Diego State, scoring a program-record five goals in a 5-2 win for UCLA.
The Bruins have dominated the all-time series against SDSU, holding a 48-7-12 record against the Aztecs. Last year's defeat at
home was a rarity in the series, as it broke a 23-game winless streak for SDSU in Westwood dating back to 1987. Since 2000,
the Bruins have lost just once at home to the Aztecs (9-1-6). Since SDSU joined the Pac-12 for men's soccer for the 2005 season,
UCLA has either won or split the season series in all but one year (2007). The Bruins are 18-4-7 overall against SDSU since they
joined the league in 2005.
ILOSKI TAKES OVER NATIONAL SCORING LEAD
Thanks to a five-game scoring streak out of the gate and a five-goal performance against SDSU, UCLA junior forward Milan Iloski has now taken over the national lead in a number of categories.
ILOSKI, MICHAELIDES INCLUDED IN TDS MIDSEASON PLAYER RANKINGS UPDATE
After going unnamed in the TopDrawerSoccer preseason player rankings, Milan Iloski was placed at No. 7 in the soccer outlet's midseason update. In addition, left back Constantinos Michaelides was tabbed as the No. 58 player in the TDS Freshman Top-100. Michaelides has recorded one goal and one assist over 17 games, and has racked up 965 minutes on the pitch so far.
FERCH ON FIRE
Sophomore midfielder Riley Ferch has come into his own in the second half of the season, posting seven assists and nine points over his last nine games. That stretch includes multi-assist performances against SDSU and Cal and a three-point game against UC Riverside featuring his first NCAA goal. Overall on the year, he has one goal, nine assists, and 11 points. His nine helpers lead the Pac-12, rank sixth nationally, and are the most by a Bruin in a single season since Jackson Yueill had 11 in 2016.
RED-HOT OCTOBER
The Bruins stepped up their offensive production in October, potting 17 goals in eight games. That stretch featured four games with three or more goals including a season-high five scores against San Diego State. UCLA's 2.1 goals per game for the month of October was a solid increase from the 1.38 GPG clip from the first eight contests of the year. No Pac-12 squad had more goals than UCLA in October.
ILOSKI TO ILOSKI
Junior midfielder Eric Iloski has earned the primary assist on three of his brother's goals this year - his opening goals against Maryland and CSUN as well as his third goal against SDSU. The brothers have now recorded a point on the same goal on four occasions - Milan and elder brother Brian assisted on an Eric goal against San Diego State on Oct. 15, 2017.
SETTING IT UP
Entering the week, the Bruins have four players with four or more assists on the year. Riley Ferch has a team-high nine, while Matt Powell, Cody Sundquist, and Eric Iloski all have a career-high four. Overall, UCLA leads the league and is 33rd nationally with 33 team assists.
SAVES THE DAY
UCLA sophomore keeper Justin Garces has tallied 56 saves so far this season, a figure which leads the Pac-12 (by a margin of six saves) and represents an individual single-season career-high. The Miami, Fla. native has made three or more saves in nine games this year, and is coming off a career-high 10-save performance against Cal.
