The Top 2 teams at each of the nine regionals will earn automatic berths at the NCAA Championships, which take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Indiana. In addition to the 18 automatic bids, there are also 13 at-large team bids. Thirty-six individuals automatically qualify for the championships races by being one of the top four regional finishers not on an advancing team. Two additional at-large individuals are selected by the committee. NCAA selections will be announced on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The Bruin women will compete in a 38-team field, led by No. 2 Stanford and No. 4 Washington. UCLA finished seventh last year at the Western Regional, with Erika Adler being UCLA's sole qualifier to the NCAA Championships after a 14th-place finish. Adler and Christina Rice, who finished 23rd, each earned All-Region honors. Rice has been UCLA's top runner all season, finishing 10th at the Bill Dellinger Invitational and 17th at the Pac-12 Championships.
The UCLA men are the third-highest ranked team in the 30-team field, checking in at No. 10 behind No. 4 Stanford and No. 6 Oregon. The Bruins will also be challenged by No. 11 Portland and No. 14 Washington. Last season, the Bruins placed sixth overall and missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Championships. Colin Burke led UCLA with an 11th-place finish to earn All-Region honors. In 2019, Robert Brandt has led UCLA at its major meets, posting Top 6 finishes at the Pac-12 Championships, Nuttycombe Invitational and Bill Dellinger Invitational. Brandt, Garrett Reynolds and Burke have proven to be a strong 1-2-3 punch, earning Top 25 finishes at three meets, including a 2-5-7 finish at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.
