Seven Bruins Earn All-Pac-12 Soccer Honors

November 13, 2019 | Women's Soccer

Seven UCLA women's soccer players were selected to the All-Pac-12 team, led by first-team All-Pac-12 honorees Jessie Fleming and Ashley Sanchez. Kaiya McCullough, Lucy Parker and Viviana Villacorta were named to the second team, and Chloe Castaneda and Mia Fishel earned third team acclaim. Fishel was also named to the All-Freshman Team.

Fleming, a senior midfielder from London, Ontario, becomes only the third Bruin to earn first-team all-conference honors all four years, joining Abby Dahlkemper (2011-14) and Lauren Cheney (2006-09). Coming off her second World Cup this summer, Fleming has totaled two goals and four assists in 17 games played in 2019. In her career, she has totaled 24 goals, 22 assists and 70 points while scoring 10 game-winning goals. A 2017 finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy, Fleming is also on this year's MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List and is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award.

Sanchez, a junior forward from Monrovia, Calif., is UCLA's leading scorer with 24 points off six goals and a team-high 12 assists. Sanchez just set the school record for career assists with 39 and is three away from tying the school single-season record of 15 that she tied last year. A first-team All-Pac-12 honoree for the third-straight year, Sanchez is also on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.

McCullough, a senior defender from Mission Viejo, Calif., was selected to the second team for the second time in her career. She was a second-team honoree in 2017 and an All-Freshman selection in 2016. The Bruins' center back has led the defense this year to 10 shutouts and a 0.78 team goals against average. UCLA opponents have been limited to single-digit shots in 14 of 19 games.

Parker, a junior defender from Cambridge, England, receives her first Pac-12 honor after transferring this fall from LSU, where she was a first-team All-SEC honoree a year ago. Parker has scored three goals, including two game-winners, for the Bruins this year while helping lead the defense to 10 shutouts and a 0.78 team goals against average. A 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List selection, Parker leads UCLA in minutes played with 1,671.

Villacorta, a junior midfielder from Lawndale, Calif., earns second-team all-conference honors for the second-straight year. She has started all 19 games for the Bruins and ranks fourth on the team in scoring with nine points and second on the team with five assists.

Castaneda, a redshirt senior midfielder from Encino, Calif., receives her first career Pac-12 honor as a third-team selection. Castaneda has scored all eight of her points in conference play this year, totaling three goals and two assists.

Fishel, a freshman forward from San Diego, Calif., leads UCLA with nine goals and four game-winning goals and ranks second on the team in points scored with 20. Fishel, who has played in all 19 games with 15 starts, also ranks first among all Pac-12 freshmen in goals scored.

Pac-12 postseason honors are determined by a polling of the Conference coaches. The coaches selected Washington head coach Lelse Gallimore as the coach of the year for the second time in her 26-year tenure. USC's Tara McKeown was voted the Forward of the Year. California's Angelina Anderson became the first player in conference history to earn Goalkeeper and Freshman of the Year honors. Stanford's Catarina Macario (Midfielder of the Year) and Naomi Girma (Defensive Player of the Year) round out the award-winners.
