November 22, 2019 | Women's Basketball

LOS ANGELES – The No. 11 UCLA women's basketball team defeated Northern Colorado, 92-58, Friday evening in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

Three Bruins scored in double figures and six tallied eight points or more, led by redshirt junior Natalie Chou's career-high 19. Senior Japreece Dean added 18, while redshirt sophomore posted 16. Dean added a game-high seven assists, while juniors Chantel Horvat and Lauryn Miller led all players with six rebounds each.

The balanced UCLA effort also included 26 assists on 34 field goals made. The Bruin defense also shined, forcing 25 UNC turnovers that led to 26 points. UCLA (4-0) also notched advantages of 25-4 in fast-break points and 52-16 in points in the paint.

The Bruins used a 16-2 first-quarter run to push their lead to 19 with 1:12 to go. Chou, Corsaro, Dean and freshman Charisma Osborne combined for 25 points on 7-of-7 shooting from the field in the first 10 minutes, during which UCLA would build a 31-11 lead.

Northern Colorado (2-4), which is led by former UCLA assistant coach Jenny Huth and has Bruin basketball alumna Kari Korver and former UCLA video coordinator Christian Blanks on staff, scored six of the first eight points in the second stanza. The Bruins answered, though, scoring 10 of the quarter's last 13 points to build a 47-23 halftime advantage.

UCLA's lead grew to as many as 41 points in the third quarter, during which junior Michaela Onyenwere scored her first seven points of the contest. The Bruins forced nine turnovers and racked up nine offensive rebounds in the third frame, which led to 15 more field-goal attempts and the 27-13 advantage on the scoreboard.

Chou scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including consecutive 3-pointers on UCLA's final two scoring plays. The Plano, Texas native converted 7 of her 9 shot attempts, including 3 of 4 from distance, for the game.

Alexis Chapman scored 18 points to lead the Bears, who converted 21 of 30 free-throw attempts.

The Bruins will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they welcome Yale to Pauley Pavilion for a 7 p.m., PT start. Pac-12 Networks will provide television coverage of the non-conference game.
