BERKELEY, Calif. -- No. 3 UCLA (17-5) fell to No. 1 USC (14-5), 10-6, in the third-place game of the 2019 MPSF Championship on Sunday afternoon at Spieker Aquatics Complex. With the loss, the Bruins fell to 87-84-1 all-time against the Trojans.

The Bruins were led by freshman Andy Rodgers, sophomore Jake Cavano and junior Nicolas Saveljic, who each scored two goals. Redshirt senior Alex Wolf played the entire game in the cage for the Bruins and tallied 13 saves while giving up 10 goals.

UCLA scored first when Rodgers struck from the front court (6:52) to put the Bruins up 1-0. USC's Hannes Daube (2:55 and 0:32) scored back-to-back goals to put the Trojans up 2-1. But Rodgers netted his second goal on a power play (0:05) to tie the game at 2-2 at the end of the first period.

The Trojans were able to pull away from the Bruins in the second period, winning the quarter 4-1. Cavano scored the lone goal for the Bruins in the period on a power play (0:58) to cut the deficit to 5-3. But USC answered with another goal to take a 6-3 lead into the break.

UCLA could not get closer than two goals the rest of the way. with both teams scoring twice in the third period and the Trojans winning the final quarter, 2-1, to provide the 10-6 final.

The Bruins now await the release of the NCAA Championship bracket, which is scheduled for release tonight on NCAA.com.
