Fleming Named Semifinalist for MAC Hermann Trophy

November 26, 2019 | Women's Soccer

For the second time in her career, senior midfielder Jessie Fleming (London, Ontario, Canada) has been selected as one of 15 women's semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy, based on voting by NCAA Division I women's soccer coaches.

The MAC Hermann Trophy, presented by World Wide Technology, is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college soccer. Three finalists will be named for the award on Dec. 6 in conjunction with the Women's College Cup in San Jose, Calif. The winner will be announced on Jan. 3, 2020 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Fleming, UCLA's three-year team captain and Canada's two-time World Cup player (2015 and 2019). has enjoyed an outstanding collegiate career. She made a big impact on the Bruins from the second she stepped foot onto the pitch, scoring two goals in her first game, just days after helping Canada win the bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics. Fleming went on to record team-highs of 11 goals and 27 points en route to being named the Top Drawer Soccer Freshman of the Year and a third-team All-American. In 2017, she was a finalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and earned first-team All-America honors while leading UCLA to the NCAA Championship game. Although she missed half of the 2018 season while on national team duty, Fleming still totaled five goals and five assists in just 11 games and was a first-team All-Pac-12 honoree.

In her senior season in 2019, Fleming is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, honoring student-athletes who excel on and off the field. She has earned honor roll distinction four times and Pac-12 All-Academic honors twice so far while majoring in materials engineering and minoring in environmental science. On the field, she ranks fourth on the team in scoring this season with 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists), and she became only the third player in UCLA history to earn first-team all-conference honors all four years.
