KOHALA, Hawaii - After 36 holes at the Nanea Pac-12 Preview, the Bruins sit in first place following a 6-under 286 on Tuesday at the Nanea Golf Club. UCLA is at 13-under 571 following two rounds, two strokes ahead of second-place Arizona (-11, 573).
Three Bruins are in contention for the individual title, as senior Mariel Galdiano and freshman Emma Spitz are both tied for second and one shot back of the lead held by Washington's Rino Sasaki (-6, 140). Galdiano is at 5-under 141 after a 3-under 70 in her second round. In a shotgun start, she rebounded from a bogey on her first hole, No. 2, with five birdies on No. 4, 7, 14, 16 and 18, posting only one more bogey during her round.
Spitz is also at 5-under 141 after 36 holes following a 1-under 72 on Tuesday. She made three birdies in a row on holes No. 4, 5 and 6, adding another one on No. 13, with three bogeys.
Freshman Ty Akabane is tied for seventh at 3-under 143 after a 3-under 70. She birdied her first hole, No. 4, as well as No. 6, 9, 10, 16 and 18, while making three bogeys. Freshman Annabel Wilson is tied for 20th at 1-over 147. She shot a 1-over 74 on Tuesday with four birdies (No. 10, 13, 16 and 18) and five bogeys. Senior Clare Legaspi is tied for 23rd (+2, 148), shooting a 3-over 76 on two birdies on No. 14 and 16 and five bogeys.
Wednesday's final round will be another shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT/9:30 a.m. PT (Spitz No. 1, Galdiano No. 2, Akabane No. 3, Wilson No. 4, Legaspi No. 5).
