Women's Tennis Sending Six to Fall Nationals
November 05, 2019 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES – Six members of the UCLA women's tennis team will be in action when play gets underway at the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Newport Beach, Calif. on Wednesday. The event, scheduled to run through Sunday, marks the final one of the fall season.
UCLA's contingent of six participants is tied for an event high. North Carolina is sending four singles players and two doubles teams.
Freshman Abbey Forbes and junior Annette Goulak had championship showings at last month's ITA Southwest Regional Championships, as Forbes defeated teammate Jada Hart for the singles crown and the tandem of Forbes and Goulak beat Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson for the doubles title. Those wins produced berths into the fall finale.
Joining Forbes and Goulak down the coast are redshirt senior Hart (Oracle/ITA No. 9) and sophomore Elysia Bolton (No. 16), as well as the doubles duos of Hart/Bolton (No. 4) and Altick/Johnson (No. 37).
All women's matches will be played at the Newport Beach Tennis Club.
LAST WEEK
Just shy of two weeks removed from a UCLA women's tennis sweep at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, the Bruins pulled off the feat again at the Jack Kramer Club Collegiate Invitational. Newcomers Annette Goulak and Sasha Vagramov were the stars of the weekend. Junior Goulak edged freshman Vagramov in the semifinal round on her way to singles title, then joined forces with her teammate for the doubles championship. Junior Abi Altick and sophomore Taylor Johnson also posted singles wins.
