December 14, 2019 | Gymnastics
The preseason No. 4 UCLA gymnastics team previewed their 2020 routines in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom on Saturday in a blue vs. gold intrasquad. The blue squad, led by Norah Flatley and Felicia Hano, defeated the gold squad, 117.950-117.600.
Flatley was one of four Bruins to earn 9.95 scores in the meet, achieving the meet's top score on balance beam. She also scored well on uneven bars and floor exercise, earning 9.875s on each event. Hano competed all-around for the first time since early 2018. Her total of 39.0 included a 9.9 on vault and 9.875 as the first competitor on balance beam.

The gold team received two big all-around scores from Margzetta Frazier (39.575) and Nia Dennis (39.475) but had to count a fall on the uneven bars, which negated Frazier's meet-winning 9.95. The gold team had its best showing on vault and floor with three-score marks of 29.7. Dennis stuck her 9.95-start valued Yurchenko layout full vault with flair, earning a perfect mark of 9.95. Sekai Wright stuck her Yurchenko 1.5 to score 9.9. And on floor, Ross' 9.95 and Frazier's 9.925 led all performers.
Our big scorer so far is @DennisNia, who scored a perfect 9.95 on vault and a 9.9 on bars. #GoBruins | #MeetTheBruins pic.twitter.com/MXsaZTJOm0

During the floor exercise rotation, the team brought to the Pauley Pavilion floor a grander version of "Operation Peacock". The Bruin gymnasts competed in custom leotards that they helped design based on the theme of their floor routine.
UCLA will officially open the season on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Collegiate Challenge powered by Under Armour in Anaheim. The Bruins will take on No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 9 california and No. 22 Stanford.
