Fleming, Sanchez Receive All-Region Honors
December 02, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Senior midfielder Jessie Fleming and junior forward Ashley Sanchez have earned All-Pacific Region honors by the United Soccer Coaches. Fleming was selected to the first team, while Sanchez earned second-team acclaim.
Fleming was a first-team all-region selection in 2016 and 2017 and received second-team honors a year ago in an abbreviated season. The two-time All-American is a semifinalist for the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy and was a finalist for the award in 2017. This year, she became only the third Bruin ever to earn first-team All-Pac-12 honors all four years, joining fellow World Cup players Abby Dahlkemper and Lauren Cheney. Fleming, a Materials Engineering major, is a finalist for the Senior CLASS Award and has totaled three goals and four assists this season.
Sanchez, a junior forward from Monrovia, Calif., picks up her third career all-region honor. She previously earned first-team honors her first two seasons and first-team All-America honors in 2018. Sanchez leads the Bruins with 14 assists this season and has already set the school record for career assists with 41. She is one assist away from matching her school record-tying total of 15 single-season assists. Sanchez, who was called up to U.S. Women's National team camp next week, ranks second on the team in scoring with 28 points and in goals scored with seven.
The two Bruins will be playing in their second College Cup in three years. UCLA will take on Stanford in the NCAA semifinals on Friday, Dec. 6 at 6:30pm in San Jose's Avaya Stadium.
