The celebration was short-lived, however, as Sophia Smith scored her first of two first-half goals less than three minutes later, knocking in a hard-angled shot from the right side at 8:34. Carly Malatskey gave the Cardinal the lead at 20:30, one-timing a shot that was deflected before going off the right post and in. Smith increased the lead to 3-1 10 minutes later, going far post to beat Teagan Micah.
ย
The Bruins had a prime opportunity to cut the lead to one in the 43rd minute when Mia Fishel took a hard foul in the box, but her penalty kick was saved by Meyer, who guessed accurately on Fishel's shot.

Stanford increased its lead to 4-1 in the 52nd minute on Smith's third goal of the match.
"Obviously, we wished we had a better effort overall, just for the game of soccer in general," said UCLA head coach Amanda Cromwell. "You always want to offer something more in the liking of how we've been playing, and tonight was an off-game for us. It didn't reflect our season. It's a hard way to end it. I have to give a ton of credit to Stanford. Sophia Smith had a day."
Micah was under duress throughout the match, facing an opponent season-high 25 shots and making a career-high 10 saves in her final game as a Bruin. She nearly matched her previous career-high of nine in the first half alone, making eight stops in the opening 45 minutes.
The Bruins had two looks at goal after Smith's third tally โ redshirt senior forward Anika Rodriguez put in a goal-bound shot in the 68th minute and junior forward Ashley Sanchez uncorked a shot in the 84th โ but both were turned aside by Meyer.
Rodriguez and senior Sunny Dunphy co-led the team with two shots apiece. UCLA mustered eight shots as a team.
UCLA was playing in its 11th College Cup all-time and second in the last three years.ย
