February 25, 2019 | Men's Volleyball
UCLA junior middle blockerย Daenan Gyimahย was named the Sports ImportsVB/AVCA DI-II National Player of the Week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association and the Offensive Player of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Gyimahย helped lead the Bruin men's volleyball team to a pair of league wins at Concordia, Irvine and against No. 14 USC last week to improve their records to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in MPSF action on the season.
Gyimah hit .629 for the two matches, with just three errors on 35 swings, while averaging 4.2 kills per set. It marked the 10th and 11th matches this season in which Gyimah has hit at least .500 and the 13th straight contest in which he has hit at least .400. He now has one or less errors in eight matches this season. His four block assists at Concordia were one-off of his season-best total. Gyimahย collected six of his 14 kills in the first set against USC to help kick start the Bruins attack in the straight set win over the Trojans. The 14 kills marked the ninth double-digit effort by the junior and were his third-highest kill total in a match this season.
