SAN DIEGO – Alyssa Wilson broke a six-year-old school record in the hammer throw, and the UCLA track & field team finished a historic day at San Diego State's Aztec Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Wilson's effort of 68.11m (223-5) topped her previous PR of 66.99m (219-9), which she achieved last season. She took first place in the event and also broke a facility and meet record, which was 67.07m (220-0), set by Leslie Coons (unattached) in 2008.
In the women's javelin, Ilaria Casarotto notched a first-place finish with a mark of 44.27m (145-3), which she achieved on her fourth attempt. She was followed by Lauren McFall, who took eighth overall (124-10).
On the men's side, Jacob Wilson finished fourth in the hammer throw, posting an effort of 59.41m (194-11) on attempt No. 4.
The Bruins will cap the Aztec Invitational tomorrow before prepping for its home-opening meet next weekend at Drake Stadium.
