No. 1 UCLA Completes the Sweep at Pac-12 South

TUCSON, Ariz.ย ย -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 9-0, its best start in school history, with its third-straight sweep at the Pac-12 South Tournament with a 5-0 win over No. 11 California (4-1). The Bruins improved to 5-0 all-time against the Golden Bears.
The reigning Pac-12 Pair of the Week, junior Lily Justine and senior Sarah Sponcil, put the Bruins up 1-0 ย with a dominant straight-set win over the Golden Bears' Lya Lindahl and Caroline Schafer on court two, 21-9, 21-11.
Court three was next to finish as senior Zana Munoย and freshman Abby Van Winkle improved to 8-0 on the year with a straight-set victory over Cal's Maddie Micheletti/Grace Campbell, 21-18, 21-16.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara clinched the dual victory on court one with a straight-set win over Cal'sย Jordan Polo and Mima Irkovic, 21-14, 21-17.
Theย new pairing of sophomore Lea Monkhouseย and junior Savvy Simoย improved to 3-0 on the year on court four, rallying to defeat the Golden Bears' Alexia Inman and Madison Duek, 21-23, 21-14, 15-13.
Another new pairing of freshman Lindsey Sparks and senior Izzy Carey completed the sweep on court five, rallying to defeat Cal's Mia Merino and Abby Waldburger, 24-26, 21-14, 15-11.
The Bruins return to action on Wednesday, March 6 at Zumaย Beach when they take on No. 3 Pepperdine at 12:00 p.m. PT.
