UCLA Garners Five All-Americans on Day One of NCAA Championships

Birmingham, Ala. – Five Bruins were in action on day one of the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham Crossplex Friday, with UCLA picking up points in the women's shot put and men's 5,000 competitions.
Alyssa Wilson led the way for the Bruin women in the shot put, taking home fourth place with a launch of 17.38m (57-00.25) on her second attempt. Wilson improved nine spots from her 14th-place performance at the 2018 Indoor Championships. Senior Ashlie Blake threw 16.71m (54-10.00) for 10th place overall, her second consecutive Top-10 finish at nationals.
Senior Dotun Ogundeji was the Bruins' lone representative in the men's shot put competition, finishing 11th overall with a mark of 19.32m (63-04.75).
Junior Robert Brandt picked up a point for the Bruins in the men's 5000m, rolling with the lead pack for an eighth-place finish. The 5k indoor school-record holder crossed with a time of 13:50.74.
In his first appearance at the national indoor meet, freshman Sondre Guttormsen finished 10th in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 5.58m (18-03.75).
Day two of the indoor nationals will kick off with the men's high jump at 1:00 p.m. CT /11:00 a.m. PT. The first track event of the day will be the women's mile final at 2:10 p.m. PT.
The Bruins will be represented by senior Justin Stafford and Wilson in the men's and women's respective weight throw competitions. The men's competition will begin at noon PT while the women will get started at 2:30 p.m. PT.
