UCLA Rowing Defeats San Diego State

MARINA DEL REY, Calif. – The UCLA women's rowing team opened its spring season with victories in each of four races against San Diego State on Saturday morning.
The Bruins' varsity eight crossed the finish line more than 18 seconds ahead of San Diego State, posting a final time of 6 minutes and 38.90 seconds. San Diego State finished the race in 6:57.62.
UCLA's second varsity eight edged SDSU by less than one second. The Bruins recorded a final time of 6:48.30, crossing the finish line ahead of SDSU (time of 6:49.10).
In the varsity four race, UCLA's crew registered a win by finishing 17 seconds ahead of the SDSU. The Bruins clocked in with a time of 7:27.20, while SDSU finished the race in 7:44.20.
UCLA's third varsity eight and fourth varsity eight crews both crossed the finish line ahead of San Diego State. The Bruins' 3V8+ posted a time of 6:59.60 and the 4V8+ finished in 7:11.70, narrowly edging San Diego State (7:11.75).
Saturday's races began with the third varsity eight with the varsity eight racing at the end of the morning. The races switched from calm tailwind to headwind for the first varsity eight.
UCLA will return to action against Loyola Marymount on Saturday, March 16. Races are expected to begin at 7:20 a.m. in Marina del Rey, Calif.
