Men's Tennis Keeps Streak Alive, Beats Oregon
April 12, 2019 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ The No. 13 UCLA men's tennis team extended its winning streak to nine matches Friday, defeating No. 48 Oregon 4-1 at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
For the second match in a row, Eric Hahn provided the heroics. The freshman posted a straight-set win on Court 6 to clinch the overall victory, three days after securing a 4-1 win against visiting Pepperdine. Maxime Cressy and Keegan Smith also notched straight-set wins on the top two courts. The Bruins (13-4, 5-0) got the afternoon started by picking up their eighth straight doubles point. The Ducks (13-6, 1-4) got their lone win from Joshua Charlton on Court 4.
The fourth-ranked doubles team of Cressy and Smith kept its personal streak going on Court 1, defeating Charlton and Ty Gentry for the Bruins' 12th win without a loss. The 6-2 victory marked Cressy-Smith's seventh while surrendering three or fewer games.
On Court 3, Bryce Pereira-Patrick Zahraj of UCLA dropped the first two games of its match against Emmanuel Coste and Armando Soemarno. Pereira-Zahraj went on to take five of the next six games to clinch the day's first point. The Bruins saved three break points in taking the final game.
No. 21 Cressy made quick work of Coste on the top court to keep momentum rolling in favor of the Bruins. The senior, who has yet to lose to an unranked opponent this season, has now won consecutive matches by identical 6-1, 6-2 scores. He is 10-3 on the year.
On the next court over, Smith continued his red-hot play with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Gentry. The Bruin has now won six straight completed matches and has dropped just one decision in conference play. His victory extended the UCLA lead to 3-0.

Charlton briefly gave the Ducks a glimmer of hope when he completed a straight-set win against Ben Goldberg on Court 4. Goldberg charged back in the second set after relinquishing all but two first-set games, but came up on the short end of the 6-2, 7-6(5) decision.
With Govind Nanda nearing victory on Court 3, Hahn seized his opportunity to seal another Bruin win. The Fullerton, Calif. native trailed 2-5 in his first-set tiebreaker before answering with seven of the next eight points heading into the second set. The second set was all Hahn, who went on to a 7-6(6), 6-1 victoryโjust his third of the dual-match season.
UCLA returns to action Saturday, when Washington visits LATC. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
