April 23, 2019 | Women's Tennis
SAN FRANCISCO – UCLA women's tennis sophomore Abi Altick was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of April 15-21, the conference announced Tuesday. The honor marks the first of her career.
Altick continued to shine in clutch situations, defeating Danielle Willson in a second-set tiebreaker to clinch UCLA's 4-2 win at No. 15 USC's Marks Tennis Stadium on Saturday, April 20. Altick, in fact, claimed both sets via tiebreaker and identical 7-4 scores. The deciding win represents her team-high fifth of the season and the team victory locked up the Pac-12's No. 2 spot for the Bruins.
UCLA will face Utah or Arizona in Thursday's third Pac-12 Championships quarterfinal-round match at Weil Tennis Academy in Ojai, Calif. First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
The Monroe, La. native also stood out in doubles play, teaming with Alaina Miller to defeat 90th-ranked Constance Branstine and Estella Jaeger by a 6-2 score. The match ended simultaneously with the Bruins' No. 1 pair of Elysia Bolton and Jada Hart, which was credited with the clinching win.
UCLA women's tennis has collected 25 of the conference's weekly awards all time. Altick is the third Bruin to receive the award this season, tying Stanford for the conference-best mark.
