No. 1 UCLA Posts a Pair of 4-1 Victories

LOS ANGELES -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 23-0 on the year with two more wins over ranked teams, defeating No. 13 Loyola Marymount (17-8) and No. 2 USC (16-4) in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 3 at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center.
In the win over the Lions, sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simo put the Bruins up 1-0, cruising to a straight-set victory over LMU's Ella Boehle and Emma Doud on court four, 21-14, 21-12.
Then Savannah Slattery and Reka Orsi Toth tied the dual at 1-1, handing UCLA's senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine just their second loss of the year with a three-set thriller on court two, 25-23, 11-21, 15-13.
Freshman Lindsey Sparks and senior Izzy Carey put UCLA up 2-1 with a straight-set win on court five over the Lions' Veronica Nederend and Erin Martin, 21-10, 21-16.
Then seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara clinched the dual for UCLA with a straight-set win on court one over Megan Nash and Bo Culo, 21-16, 21-14. The win marked the 100th career victory for Megan McNamara.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno provided the 4-1 final score with a straight-set win on court three, defeating LMU's Sara Kovac and Jessie Prichard, 21-13, 21-18.

In the win over the Trojans, the Bruins had never won four flights in a dual with USC until today. Junior Savvy Simo and sophomore Lea Monkhouse got the Bruins on the board first with a straight-set win on court four over Joy Dennis and Maja Kaiser, 21-12, 21-14.
Senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine made it 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two over the Trojans' Sammy Slater and Terese Cannon, 21-18, 21-15. The win marked the 100th career victory for Sponcil.
Like they did in the earlier dual, seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara sealed the dual victory with their 17th-consecutive straight-set win on court one for the Bruins, defeating Abril Bustamante and Tina Graudina, 21-10, 21-19.
Laurel Kujan and Hannah Martin scored the only point for USC in the dual with a hard-fought three-set win on court five over UCLA's Lindsey Sparks and Izzy Carey, 22-24, 31-19, 15-13.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno remained undefeated at 21-0 on the year with an impressive straight-set win over USC's Haley Hallgren and Alexandra Poletto, 23-21, 25-23.
The Bruins return to action on Saturday, April 6, when they travel to Stanford, Calif., to compete in the Pac-12 North Tournament. UCLA opens with Washington at 9:00 a.m. PT on April 6.
