Three Bruins Named to MPSF All-Academic Team

Three Bruins were represented as Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Executive Director Al Beaird announced the MPSFย Men's Volleyball All-Academic team on Monday. The list of honorees included seniors Micah Ma'a and Dylan Missry as well as sophomore Grant Maleski. It marked the third straight season for which both Ma'a and Missry had been honored by the MPSFย for their high level of achievement in the classroom.
Ma'a startedย all 28 matches in 2019 while seeing action at both setter and outside hitter. Theย co-winner of Off the Block's National Server of the Year Award, he established a school single-season record with 67 aces on the way to compiling a school career record of 208 aces. Ma'a recorded the nation's only triple-double (15 kills, 44 set assists, 15 digs) at BYU during the season which was his second career triple, tying that school record. A first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America selection, he had 13 matches during 2019 with at least three aces and ranked second in the NCAA in service ace average (0.64). In addition, Ma'a helped set the team to the fifth-highest hitting percentage in the NCAA at .323. He was also a first-team All-MPSF selection by the league's coaches.
Missryย saw action in 17 matches, with 16 starting assignments during an injury-plagued 2019 season. The outside hitter registered five double-digit kill matches, with a best of 18 spikes in a win at Lewis. Missry hitย over .300 in 10 matches and had multiple aces in four contests with a high of four aces versus Concordia. He recorded a best of eight digs against bothย Pepperdine and Concordia.ย Missry totaled a season-high 20.0 points in the match at Lewis.ย
Maleski saw action in 26 matches and made 23 starts at middle blocker in 2019. He totaledย at least a .300 hitting percentage in 15 matches during the course of the year, with a best of .800 vs. Grand Canyon. Maleskiย recorded multiple aces in five matches, with a best of three service aces in back-to-back matches against Concordia and USC. He was credited with at least 3.0 blocks in 12 matches, with a top mark of 7.0 versus Stanford, and rated fifteenth in the MPSF in blocks per set (0.69) average for the year.
All members of the MPSFย Men's Volleyball All-Academic squad met the following criteria:
1. 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average
2. Be at least a sophomore in academic standing
3. Completed at least one full academic year at their school prior to the 2019 seasonย
