Budgett Captures All-Pac-12 Rowing Team Honors
May 28, 2019 | Women's Rowing
Senior Saskia Budgett has earned All-Pac-12 women's rowing honors, as announced Tuesday morning by the Pac-12 Conference office.
ย
Budgett, who grew up in England and arrived at UCLA after two years in Lausanne, Switzerland, has rowed for the Bruins' top varsity crew all four seasons. This marks the second consecutive year in which she has secured All-Pac-12 honors. Budgett has become UCLA's fourth rower to secure All-Pac-12 acclaim in multiple seasons, since the women's rowing program transitioned from club to NCAA varsity status in 2001-02 (joining a list that includes Vanessa Teff, Britta Syverson and Marie Jacquet).
ย
Budgett rowed seven seat in the Bruins' top varsity eight crew as a senior. She helped UCLA to a fourth-place team finish two weeks ago at the Pac-12 Championships at Lake Natoma, as the V8+ crew recorded a fifth-place finish. Budgett also guided the Bruins' V8+ boat to a third-place finish on the first day of the San Diego Crew Classic, advancing into the Grand Final race on day two.
ย
Joining Budgett on this season's All-Pac-12 team includes Marlee Blue (Washington), Ivy Elling Quaintance (Washington State), Julianne Faralisch (California), Stephanie Grauer (Stanford), Alina Hagstrom (Oregon State), Krete Koovit (USC), Dana Moffat (California), Sydney Payne (California), Tabea Schendekehl (Washington), Elizabeth Sharis (Stanford), Chase Shepley (Stanford) and Charlotte Wesselmann (California).
ย
California senior Dana Moffat was named the Pac-12 Women's Rowing Athlete of the Year, while Stanford freshman Kelsey McGinley earned Pac-12 Women's Rowing Newcomer of the Year honors.
