NEW ORLEANS โ Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2019 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field season were announced on Friday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), and both Avery Anderson and Alyssa Wilson were recognized in the West.

In his second year as the Director of Track & Field and Cross Country at UCLA, Anderson was named the West Region Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year. This marks his second award of the 2019 season. He was the Pac-12 Men's Coach of the Year after leading the Bruins to a second-place finish at the conference championships. The Bruins have qualified 12 men to the final site of the NCAA Championships and are currently No. 11 in the country โ their highest ranking since 2014.

A sophomore out of Jackson, New Jersey, Wilson was recognized as the West Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year. She is ranked second nationally in both the hammer at 70.63m (231-9) and the shot put at 18.02m (59-1.5), and is ranked fifth nationally in the discus at 60.76m (199-4). For the second straight season, Wilson is the only woman who will compete in three individual events at the NCAA Championships. She was the Pac-12 Championships Women's Field Athlete of the Meet and the Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Each of the nine regions โ Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Mountain, Northeast, South, South Central, Southeast and West โ honored both gender's top track athletes and field athletes as well as the top men's and women's head coaches and assistant coaches.
