STANFORD, Calif. - The second-ranked Bruins scored in four of their seven at-bats on Saturday, evening their series at Stanford with a 7-4 victory. Junior Bubba Nickles had a pair of hits, driving in three, to extend her hitting streak to 15 games.
UCLA (44-3, 18-2 Pac-12) had 11 hits from nine different players, as sophomore Briana Perez also recorded a two-hit contest.
Redshirt junior Rachel Garcia improved to 20-0, striking out five in 6 2/3 innings, allowing two runs, four hits and two walks.
The Bruins scored in their first at-bat, rallying with two outs on a Garcia single, walks to redshirt sophomore Aaliyah Jordan and senior Taylor Pack and a single by senior Brianna Tautalafua to take a 1-0 lead.
In the third, UCLA tacked on another run with two outs. Garcia reached on an error, Pack singled to left and Jordan doubled off the top of the wall in left-center to bring in Garcia to make it 2-0.
UCLA scored two more two-out runs in the fourth. With one out, sophomore Kinsley Washington reached on an infield single, and one out later, Nickles doubled to right to drive in Washington to get the lead to 3-0. Perez then singled up the middle to score Nickles to increase the advantage to 4-0.
Stanford (32-14, 8-9 Pac-12) got two runs back in the fourth on a two-run homer by Montana Dixon off sophomore Holly Azevedo.
In the sixth, UCLA scored some insurance with three runs. Senior Paige Halstead led off with a single, and was pinch-run for by senior Zoe Shaw. One out later, freshman Kelli Godin reached on a bunt single, and then both her and Shaw moved up a base on a wild pitch. Nickles followed with a single to left to plate both runners to make it 6-2. With Nickles advancing to second on the throw home, Perez then laid down a bunt hit. The sophomore took off for second and was caught in a pickle, but when Stanford made an error, Nickles was able to score the Bruins' seventh run.
The Cardinal added two more runs in the sixth, but UCLA held on for the three-run win.
The Bruins finish up the series on Sunday at 12 p.m. The game will air live on Pac-12 Network Los Angeles.
