SAN FRANCISCO – Five UCLA rowers have secured Pac-12 All-Academic Team acclaim, while eight other student-athletes were named as honorable selections on Tuesday, as the Pac-12 Conference announced its annual women's rowing academic honors.
Senior Lanea Tuiasosopo and junior Haley Tong captured first-team All-Academic accolades. Seniors Kyra Edwards and Lucy Jepson and junior Josie Beyer were honored as second-team selections.
Tuiasosopo, who was named the UCLA Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year at the year-end Scholar-Athlete Banquet on May 20, secured first-team All-Academic acclaim for the third consecutive season (freshmen are not eligible for the academic award). Tong secured first-team All-Academic honors for the first time in her career. She was a second-team selection as a sophomore in 2017-18.
Edwards earned second-team acclaim for the first time in her career. She had been an honorable mention selection as a sophomore and junior. Beyer and Jepson each earned second-team All-Academic honors for the second consecutive season.
UCLA's eight selections as honorable mention recipients included seniors Saskia Budgett and Erin O'Donohue, juniors Fiona Buzzard and Irene Davila Mejia and sophomores Sarah Holloway, Juliette Frank, Alli Hinmon and Whitney Wood. Budgett was named an honorable mention selection for the third consecutive season.
Pac-12 student-athletes must have compiled a minimum 3.0 grade point average and have competed in at least 50 percent of the team's competitions to be eligible for the women's rowing all-academic team.
