UCLA Well-Represented at 2019 Pan American Games

Thirteen current, former and future UCLA student-athletes will compete at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru July 26-Aug. 11.

ESPN will provide multimedia coverage of the Pan American Games across ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3, the ESPN App and ESPNdeportes.com. Live streams will also be provided on the Olympic Channel.

UCLA will be represented in seven different sports - men's basketball, women's basketball, gymnastics, softball, women's tennis, men's water polo and women's water polo.

Incoming freshman guard/forward Jaime Jaquez Jr. will represent Mexico in the men's basketball tournament, which runs from July 31-Aug. 4. Michaela Onyenwere, a junior forward on the UCLA women's basketball team, will play with Team USA. The women's basketball competition takes place Aug. 6-10 at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibo. The U.S. will play in preliminary round Group B with Argentina, Colombia and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Danusia Francis, who competed on the gymnastics team from 2013-16 and won the 2016 NCAA balance beam title, will represent Jamaica in the artistic gymnastics competition, which begins July 27.

Softball will have representation from 2019 Honda Cup winner Rachel Garcia, two-time All-American Delaney Spaulding, assistant coach Tairia Flowers and alternate Ally Carda. Competition runs from Aug. 4-11.

Incoming freshman Alexandra "Sasha" Vagramov will represent Canada in the women's tennis competition, which begins July 29 and concludes on Aug. 4. Vagramov will play in singles and in doubles with Jada Bui.

Four Bruins are on the U.S. men's water polo team, while three players plus head coach Adam Krikorian are with the vaunted U.S. women's team. Playing for the men's team are Matt Farmer, Max Irving, Chancellor Ramirez and Alex Wolf, who have combined to win 10 NCAA Championships during their time at UCLA. Olympic gold medalists Rachel Fattal and Maddie Musselman, along with two-time World Champion Alys Williams, are among the players for the USA women. The water polo competition takes place Aug. 4-10, with the men opening against Cuba and the women against Puerto Rico.
