Edwards, Jacquet Compete at World Rowing Championships

Former UCLA rowers Kyra Edwards and Marie Jacquet each competed in the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim, Austria, during the final week of August (and concluding on Sunday, Sept. 1).
Edwards, who graduated from UCLA in 2019, raced for Great Britain in the women's double sculls event. Jacquet, who starred for the Bruins from 2015-17 before graduating in 2017, competed for France in the women's single sculls event. In addition, recent UCLA graduate Saskia Budgett served as an alternate for Great Britain.
Edwards helped Great Britain finish second in the C final on Sunday, Sept. 1. Racing in the women's double sculls event, Edwards and teammate Ruth Siddorn posted a final time of 7:01.790. Great Britain finished in second place behind Poland. Rounding out the remaining four crews were, in order, Germany, Ukraine, Serbia and Greece.
Racing in the second of two semifinals (C/D) on Thursday, Aug. 29, Edwards and Siddorn finished second out of four crews. Great Britain posted a time of 6:59.270 behind first-place Poland (6:53.410). Greece finished third, while Hungary posted a fourth-place finish.
Jacquet raced to a second-place finish in the C final on Sunday, Sept. 1. She recorded a final time of 7:48.600 in the C final, finishing behind Germany (7:44.54). France crossed the finish line ahead of third-place Sweden, fourth-place Nambia, fifth-place Chinese Taipei and sixth-place Greece.
Racing in the first of two semifinals (C/D) on Thursday, Jacquet helped France finish first among six boats. She posted a final time of 7:29.360, crossing the finish line ahead of Sweden, Greece, Trinidad and Tobago, Bulgaria and Puerto Rico, respectively.
The 2019 World Championships served as the first and primary opportunity to qualify boats for next year's Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo (July 24 through Aug. 9, 2020).
