MALIBU, Calif. --ย No. 2 UCLA (6-0) shook off a slow start and rallied for a 14-12 win at No. 6 Pepperdine (9-3) at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins improved to 81-31-1 all-time against the Waves with their 19th-straight win over Pepperdine.

Juniorย Nicolas Saveljicย led the Bruins in scoring with a season-high and career-high-tying four goals against the Waves. Sophomore Ashworth Molthenย had three goals, four steals, two assists, and one field block. Redshirt senior Alex Wolf played the entire game in the cage for the Bruins making a season-high 11 stops while surrendering 12 goals.

Pepperdine jumped out to a 3-0 lead, starting with a penalty shot by Marko Asic (7:40) and goals from two meters by Coleman Carpenter (6:50) and Chris Dilworth (5:57). Freshman Tommy Gruwell got the Bruins on the board with a power play goal (5:12). Then freshman Cameron Reaganย scored on a power play (4:13) to trim the deficit to 3-2. Michael Dakis put the Waves up 4-2 with 3:34 to go in the first. Sean Ferrari ended the scoring in the period with a goal (0:56) to give Pepperdine a 5-2 lead at the end of one.

The Bruins dominated the second period, outscoring the Waves, 5-1. Junior Chasen Travisano, in his first game back on the year, made his presence felt with a power play goal to open the scoring in the period (5:28). Then sophomore Ashworth Molthen scored back-to-back goals (4:36 and 3:55) to tie the game at 5-5. Gruwell then netted his second of the game from the front court to give the Bruins their first lead of the game (2:39) at 6-5. Dilworth then scored his second of the game to tie it at 6-6 (0:41).ย Saveljic put the Bruins back in front (0:11) to end the scoring in the first half on a power play with UCLA leading 7-6.

Sophomore Jake Cavanoย opened the scoring in the third period with a power play goal (5:57) to put UCLA up 8-6. Then Saveljic scored his second of the game on a lob shot (5:15) to put the Bruins up 9-6. Cavano then scored his second of the game from the front court (4:08) to extend the lead to 10-6. The Waves then scored back-to-back goals (3:39 and 2:22) to trim the Bruins' lead to 10-8. But after a timeout by head coach Adam Wright, the Bruins answered back with two goals. Molthen completed his hat trick (1:49) and Saveljic followed with his third (0:59) to push the lead to 12-8. Kosa scored his second of the game for Pepperdine to end the scoring in the third (0:47) with UCLA leading 12-9.

Junior Felix Brozyna-Vilim opened the scoring in the fourth with his first goal of the game from two meters off a nice feed from Molthen (6:06) to put UCLA up 13-9. Then Kosa completed his hat trick with a counter score (4:58) to cut the lead to 13-10. Kosa added a fourth goal of the game with 3:13 remaining to trim the Bruins' lead to 13-11. Saveljic took to the air again for his fourth goal on a lob shot from distance (0:09) to push the lead to 14-11. Dilworth beat the final buzzer on a shot after an ordinary foul to provide the 14-12 final.

UCLA returns to action on Friday, Sept. 27 when they host Pomona-Pitzer in the first game of the SoCal Invitational at 2:00 p.m.ย PT.
