Junior Felix Brozyna-Vilim and sophomores Jake Cavano and Ashworth Molthenย led the Bruins in scoring, each with two goals. Freshman Bernardo Maurizi played the entire game in the cage for the Bruins makingย 11 saves while surrendering two goals.
The Bruins got out quickly in the first quarter, jumping out to a 3-0 advantage with goals from junior Felix Brozyna-Vilimย (7:36), freshman Tommy Gruwell (5:42, penalty) and freshman Gabe Discipulo (2:36, power play). Tonyย Murphy netted a goal (0:30) for the Sagehens to cut the lead down to 3-1 heading into the second period.ย
UCLA scored back-to-back goals to start the second as Cavano scored his first (6:32) and Brozyna-Vilim (4:37) netted his second, to extend the lead to 5-1. Dylanย Elliott scored a power play goal for the Sagehens (3:59) to trim the Bruins lead to 5-2. But UCLA tacked on two more goals, both from Molthen (1:50 and 0:17) to take a 7-2 lead at halftime.ย
The Bruins pulled away in the second half, pitching a shutout in the third period while scoring four more goals. Redshirt freshmen Ryan Sawyer (6:47) and Henry Wilde (5:35, power play) each got into the scoring column before Cavano added his second (2:26) of the game on a power play. Sophomore Matthew Kacuraย ended the scoring in the third period with a goal from the front court (0:57) toย pushย their lead to 11-2.
Freshman Jack White converted a penalty shot in the opening possession of the fourth period (7:42), which was the only goal of the quarter by either team to provide the 12-2 final.ย
