Bruins Move Up to Fifth After Two Rounds in Colorado

WOLCOTT, Colo. - Thanks to shooting the second-lowest round of the day, the Bruins moved up from 10th to fifth after two rounds at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. UCLA shot a 3-under 285 on Tuesday and is at 4-over 580 through 36 holes at the Red Sky Golf Club, Fazio Course. The Bruins are within striking distance of second-place Denver (-3, 573), but are 19 back of first-place Ole Miss (-15, 561), which fired the best round of the day.
Freshman Emma Spitz moved into the Top 10 thanks to a 5-under 67, six strokes better than her round on Monday. She is tied for ninth at 4-under 140, recording seven birdies and two bogeys. Spitz made a birdie on her first hole, the 10th, and then three in a row on No. 14-16. She added birdies on No. 18, 2 and 3.
Freshman Annabel Wilson was also under par on Tuesday and is tied for 23rd (+2, 146). She posted a 2-under 70, six strokes better than her first round, making five birdies (No. 15, 1, 3, 7 and 9) and three bogeys. Freshman Emilie Paltrinieri is tied for 29th (+3, 147), shooting a 1-over 73. After two pars and a bogey to open her round, she made five birdies in a six-hole stretch (No. 13-15 and 17-18), while also adding three more bogeys and a double on her front nine. Freshman Yuki Yoshihara, playing as an individual, is also tied for 29th (+3, 147), shooting a 2-over 74 on two birdies (No. 15 and 3) and four bogeys. Senior Mariel Galdiano and freshman Ty Akabane are both tied for 51st (+7, 151). Galdiano made a birdie on the 18th and four bogeys in a 3-over 75, while Akabane also had a birdie on No. 18, four bogeys and two doubles in a 7-over 79.
Wednesday's final round will be a shotgun start, starting at 9 a.m. MT/8 a.m. PT. Wilson and Spitz will start on the fifth, Akabane and Paltrinieri on the sixth, Galdiano on the seventh and Yoshihara on the 16th.
