No. 4 Women's Tennis Captures Pink Flamingo Cup

Bruins won seven of nine matches on third and final day in Bahamas.

NASSAU, Bahamas – A rain-shortened third and final day of play at the Racquet Club at Baha Mar concluded with the UCLA women's tennis team hoisting the Pink Flamingo Cup. The Bruins won seven matches Sunday and 21 total over the course of the inaugural Pink Flamingo Invitational.

The Bruins seized four of six one-set singles matches from the University of Miami before taking two of three doubles contests versus the University of Florida.

UCLA's 21 wins were tops among the quartet, which also included the University of Texas. Texas registered 16 wins to finish second. Miami tallied 10 wins and Florida finished with seven.

Jada Hart was the top performer of the weekend, as the redshirt senior did not lose any of the six matches she played.

Fourteenth-ranked Elysia Bolton faced off against defending NCAA singles champion and third-ranked Estela Perez-Somarriba of Miami on the top court, but was unable to establish her footing in a 6-2 loss. No. 9 Jada Hart of the Bruins controlled her match against Daevenia Achong, using a 6-2 win of her own to even the score on the top two courts.

On Court 3, No. 99 Annette Goulak did not surrender a game to the Hurricanes' Maya Tahan. Abi Altick of UCLA completed an undefeated weekend on the singles court, taking down Yuya Ito by a 6-2 score on Court 4. Sasha Vagramov, ranked No. 108, doubles up Nada Dimovska of the Hurricanes on Court 5, while Florencia Urrutia blanked Taylor Johnson to give Miami its second singles victory.

In doubles play, second-ranked Bolton and Hart took down Texas twins Anna and Bianca Turati on the top court, 6-4. Playing together for the first time since November, Goulak and Abbey Forbes came up short against Fernanda Labrana and Marta Perez Mur on Court 2, falling by a 6-4, score. Finally, Altick and Johnson controlled their Court-3 match, as they took down Gabby Cusano and Lexi Ryngler, 6-2.

The Bruins will return to action Friday, Jan. 24, when they open up the dual-match season by welcoming Minnesota to Los Angeles Tennis Center. The ITA Kick-Off Weekend match will begin at 1:30 p.m., PT. It will be preceded by a contest between West Coast Conference counterparts Gonzaga and Loyola Marymount, set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
