AUGUSTA, Ga. - Senior Mariel Galdiano, freshmen Emilie Paltrinieri and Emma Spitz and UCLA commit Alessia Nobilio have all received invitations to compete in the 2020 Augusta National Women's Amateur. The 54-hole, stroke-play tournament, featuring 72 of the best amateurs in the world, will be played April 1-4 in Augusta, Ga.
The first two days (36 holes) of competition will be played at the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club on April 1-2. A cut will take place after the second round, with the top 30 players advancing to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on April 4. The entire field, regardless of whether they make the cut, will play Augusta National for an official practice round on April 3. The winner of the Augusta National Women's Amateur, which debuted in 2019, will receive an invitation to the next five ANWAs, the 2020 U.S. Women's Open, the 2020 Women's British Open, and any USGA, R&A and PGA of America amateur championships for which she is eligible for one year.
Galdiano qualified for the 2020 ANWA by being among the top 30 players from the United States in the World Amateur Golf Ranking at the end of the 2019 calendar year. Galdiano, who ended 2019 at 32nd in the WAGR, was seventh among Americans. The other three received their invitations by being among the next 30 highest-ranked players not otherwise qualified. Nobilio finished the 2019 calendar year ranked third in the WAGR, Spitz was 14th and Paltrinieri was 30th.
Spitz advanced out of an 11-for-10 playoff to make the final 30 in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, while Nobilio just missed out on making the cut. Galdiano and Paltrinieri will be appearing in their first ANWAs.
