Former UCLA standout Russell Westbrook has been named as a reserve for the upcoming NBA All-Star Game in Chicago on Sunday, Feb. 16.
 
Westbrook has earned his ninth selection to compete in the annual All-Star Game, the second-highest total of any former UCLA men's basketball player. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who starred at UCLA from 1967-69, owns the league record with 19 All-Star Game selections.
 
Westbrook has averaged 26.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.4 assists through 40 games with the Houston Rockets this season. The 6-foot-3 guard has shot 45.5 percent from the field for Houston, helping lead his team to a 29-18 record through 47 games.

Westbrook was drafted in 2008 by the Seattle SuperSonics, before the organization moved to Oklahoma City, after a successful two-year career with the Bruins. He was the fourth overall pick in the draft that year, one selection ahead of current NBA standout Kevin Love (who was selected fifth by Memphis).
 
In two seasons at UCLA (2006-07, 2007-08), Westbrook averaged 8.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists through 75 games. As a sophomore in 2007-08, he registered 12.7 points and 4.3 assists per game, starting in 34 of the team's 39 contests.
 
Westbrook is currently in his 12th season playing in the NBA. He spent his first 11 pro seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
 
This season's NBA All-Star Game will take place at the United Center in Chicago.
