LOS ANGELES – Michaela Onyenwere was named a Third-Team All-American by the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA), the organization announced Monday. It's the first USBWA All-America distinction for Onyenwere, as she becomes the third Bruin in program history to be named a USBWA All-American.
Onyenwere joins former UCLA greats Jordin Canada and Natalie Williams on the program's USBWA All-America list. Canada earned second-team honors in 2018 while Williams received first-team accolades in 1993 and 1994.
This is the second national All-America recognition for Onyenwere, as the junior was named to the Associated Press' third team on Mar. 19. Onyenwere is also in the running for the National Basketball Hall of Fame Cheryl Miller Award, the honor presented annually to the nation's top small forward.
