The No. 12 UCLA men's volleyball team (8-9) fell in four sets in a non-league contest played at No. 3 UC Santa Barbara (13-2) on Tuesday night in Robertson Gym. Scores of the match were 25-23, 18-25, 16-25, 20-25. The Bruins hit a season-low .057 for the match, with 28 hitting errors. UCLA will return to the court to play host to a pair of Big West Conference foes on Thursday (CSUN – 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom) and Saturday (No. 6 UC San Diego – 5 p.m. in John Wooden Center).
In set one, UCLA fell behind 4-8 to begin the frame. A kill from Austin Matautia and a block by Sam Kobrine/Daenan Gyimah pulled the Bruins to 10-11. A Sam Kobrine kill ignited a four-point run which lifted UCLA into a 16-14 lead. The Gauchos came back to even the score at points 16 and 17. Alex Knight's ace put UCLA up 18-17 and was followed by a kill by Matt Younggren and a block by Mads Kyed Jensen / Younggren. UCSB closed to 23-22, but UCLA answered with kills from Gyimah and J.R. Norris IV for a 25-23 win. Neither team hit well in the set as UCLA had seven errors and UCSB had nine attack errors.
