LOS ANGELES – Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 15 points as the UCLA men's basketball team lost to Stanford, 74-59, on Wednesday evening in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
Jalen Hill finished with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. He recorded the fourth double-double of his season and the seventh of his career (both team highs).
UCLA (8-9, 1-3 Pac-12) held a 34-31 rebounding advantage against Stanford (15-2, 4-0 Pac-12).
David Singleton made his first start of the season and finished the game with 11 points. He connected on 3 of 6 shots from 3-point range.
Stanford's Tyrell Terry led all scorers with a career-high 24 points. Spencer Jones added 14 points for the visiting Cardinal. Terry shot 4 of 7 from 3-point range, and Jones was 4 of 6 from long distance. Those two players accounted for all eight of Stanford's 3-point makes on Wednesday evening.
Stanford opened the game with a 9-1 scoring run before UCLA battled back, using a 9-0 scoring run to even the game, 18-18, with 9:34 to play in the opening half. Jaquez Jr. was a key cog in the Bruins' offense during the first half. He scored nine of UCLA's first 13 points.
The Bruins soon followed with an 11-0 scoring spree to take a 29-22 advantage with under five minutes to play before halftime. Stanford responded, taking a 33-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, Stanford maintained the lead. Lukas Kisunas had a dunk to push the Cardinal's lead to double digits for the first time, at 49-39, with 12:06 remaining. Stanford maintained and advantage of at least eight points throughout the rest of the contest. Terry had 11 straight Stanford points midway through the second half, finishing with 18 of his 24 points after halftime.
Stanford shot 51.1 percent from the field (24 of 47). The Bruins converted 21 of their 53 shot attempts (39.6 percent).
UCLA will return to action against California on Sunday, Jan. 19. Game time is 5 p.m. The Bruins' contest against the Golden Bears will be nationally televised on ESPNU in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.
