No. 4 UCLA Blanks LMU, Punches Indoors Ticket

LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 UCLA women's tennis team recorded its second clean sweep in as many days, as it defeated Loyola Marymount by a 4-0 score to earn a spot in next month's ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Chicago.
Freshman Abbey Forbes clinched the ITA Kickoff Weekend match for the Bruins (2-0). Fellow first-year player Sasha Vagramov registered the first singles and doubles victories of her dual-match career. Sophomore Elysia Bolton tallied the third singles win.
Bolton and Vagramov rolled to a 6-2 win over Siobhan Anderson and Lillian Gabrielson on Court 3 to give UCLA the early advantage in doubles play. Up top, Forbes and Annette Goulak suffered just their second loss in nine decisions, as Katerina Filip and Veronika Miroshnichenko doubled them up.
With the doubles point riding on Court 2, Abi Altick and Taylor Johnson outlasted Yesica de Lucas and Eva Marie Voracek for a 6-4 result and their second win in as many days.
No. 108 Vagramov blitzed Gabrielsen on Court 5, 6-1, 6-1, to cap her 2-0 day. No. 14 Bolton also picked up her first singles win of the season, surrendering just three first-set games to Miroshnichenko on Court 1. The victory marked Bolton's sixth of the season, against just two losses.
A big day for freshmen was capped with a 6-3, 6-1 triumph for Forbes on Court 2. The team leader in wins, with 14, caught Voracek leaning the wrong way with a backhand shot to seal the deal.
The Bruins return to action Friday, Jan. 31, when they welcome UC Santa Barbara to LATC. First serve is set for 1:30 p.m., PT.
