Garner Leads Bruin Distance Contingent on Day One of UW Invite

SEATTLE, WASH. – A trio of UCLA distance runners toed the line in the 5,000m at the UW Invite at Dempsey Indoor on Friday, the only three Bruins to compete in the first day of competition.
The women's 5k featured the Bruins' only action of the day, with Jackie Garner winning heat with a time of 16:50.63. The senior finished 19th overall to lead UCLA's trio in the event, as sophomores Alyssa Bautista (17:14.28) and Annabelle Werner (17:29.70) took 35th and 40th place, respectively. Bautista and Werner both recorded personal-best times with their performances.

The Bruins are back in action for Saturday's meet program in Seattle, with UCLA seeing its first action of the day in the women's mile at 10:20 a.m. PT. Meanwhile, UCLA's field athletes are on display Saturday at the UNM Team Open in Albuquerque, N.M. Competition is slated to begin with the men's pole vault at 8:45 a.m. MT/7:45 a.m. PT.
