Prior to this new commitment, the Bruin Support Program already had generated nearly $1.7M from close to 500 individual gifts across 10 states. The program provides Bruin fans with options to re-invest existing season ticket payments and Wooden Athletic Fund contributions for the 2020 year as tax-deductible donations, or to make a new tax-deductible gift directly to the Wooden Athletic Fund. These critical donations directly support nearly 700 Bruin student-athletes from all 25 teams, both on and off the field of play.
"We are so grateful to the donor who made this generous matching gift to the Bruin Support Program – and to all of the members of the Bruin family who have stepped up to support our student-athletes over the past few months," said Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond. "I hope those who are able to give will help us unlock these matching gifts by reinvesting their current support or making a new gift today."
Gifts to the Bruin Support Program have been received at all financial levels, with individual donations ranging from $100 to $55,000 – and now to $500,000, once the full matching gift amount is realized. In total, donations to the Wooden Athletic Fund for the 2020-21 campaign have reached close to $10.5 million from more than 4,000 members.
The most immediate and direct way to support UCLA student-athletes is by making a new, tax-deductible gift to the Wooden Athletic Fund. For current season ticket holders and Wooden Athletic Fund donors, the option also remains available to renew 2020-21 season tickets and 2020 WAF contribution and reinvest those payments as a 100% tax-deductible donation. Any of these gifts will go toward the $500,000 match.
