MVB at Concordia; Hosts USC on Sunday

THIS WEEK -- UCLA (5-5, 0-2), ranked No. 8 in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, will continue Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) conference play with matches at Concordia (6-6, 1-1) on Friday and then return home to face USC (2-9, 0-2) on Sunday at 5 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom.

LAST MEETING -- The Bruins captured all three meetings with Concordia last season by 3-0 scores, including a 25-21, 25-23, 25-17 decision in the MPSF playoffs. UCLA went 1-2 against the Trojans last season, winning in Pauley (25-21, 25-21, 25-22---while out acing the Trojans 12-1), losing at Galen Center (25-19, 15-25, 25-14, 20-25, 11-15---USC out blocking Bruins 3.0-8.0) and in the MPSF semifi nals, at Pepperdine, 21-25, 18-25, 27-25, 23-25---UCLA hit .241 to USC .350).The Bruins hit .420 in Pauley, .342 at Galen and .241 in match at Pepperdine. USC hit .347 or better in all three contests.
NOTES -- In matches it has won this season, UCLA is outhitting the opponent .366 to .191 and leading at the service line 46 aces to 15 --- In losses, UCLA is hitting .282 to .420 for its opponents and is trailing at the service line 26 to 28 aces ... UCLA's .489 hitting percentage in win at Ohio State is the highest by an NCAA team in four-set match this season ... Cole Ketrzynski had a five-match double-digit kill streak stopped at Stanford (8 kills) ... Ketrzynski's 17 kills in win at Long Beach (most by a Bruin true freshman player since Micah Ma'a put down 18 balls against Hawai'i in February of 2016) tied his season-high (also 17 v. Ohio State, at Princeton) ... Daenan Gyimah has earned first-team AVCA All-America honors in each of the last two seasons and also has been the recipient of the Ryan Millar Award as the nation's top middle attacker --- he has hit at least .400 in four of the five matches he has played in ... UCLA recorded a season-best 14.0 total blocks at Long Beach with season-highs from Matt Younggren (7), Mads Kyed Jensen (4), Grant Maleski (4) and Alex Knight (4) ...
