Gyimah Named Men's Volleyball Player of the Week

February 17, 2020 | Men's Volleyball

UCLA middle blocker Deanan Gyimah was named the Offensive Player of the Week by the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) on Monday. The senior helped lead the Bruins to a pair of MPSF wins this past week at Concordia and USC.

Gyimah was the picture of consistency, hitting .600 in each victory with a season-high tying 14 kills in each contest. He was also dominant at the net posting a block solo in each match to go with a total of seven block assists. Gyimah has now hit at least .400 in six of the seven matches he has seen action this past season. His 18.5-point effort against the Trojans tied his season-high in that category.

The Bruins men's volleyball team (7-5, 2-2 in MPSF play), ranked eighth this week by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), will host No. 3-ranked UC Santa Barbara (8-2) in a non-league contest on Wednesday night. First serve is at 7 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The Bruins will then return to league action and play at No. 13 Grand Canyon (10-3, 2-1) on Friday.
