The No. 12 UCLA men's volleyball team (8-7) captured a non-league win at CSUN (4-10) on Friday night. Scores of the contest were 25-22, 25-19, 25-18.  Middle blockers Daenan Gyimah and Matt Younggren combined to hit over .550 on the night with 17 kills and 8 block assists between the two seniors. The Bruins will return to the courts tomorrow as they host No. 4 Long Beach State on Saturday at 5 p.m. in the Wooden Center.

After CSUN had taken a 7-9 lead in set one, UCLA ran off the six straight points behind the serve of Sam Kobrine to move in front 13-9. The visitors upped the margin to 17-12 after a kill by Gyimah. CSUN answered with a five-point run of its own to level the score at 19-all. A couple of Matador errors put the Bruins back in charge at 21-19. CSUN closed to 23-21, but a service error and a kill from Younggren ended the set at 25-22 for the Bruins.

UCLA surged to a 7-3 advantage to start set two, with an ace by Mads Kyed Jensen keying a strong service game. The Bruins led 10-8 after a Younggren kill. A three-point run by CSUN evened the score at 14-all. UCLA answered with three straight points to break a 17-all tie on the way to a 7-1 run to go up 24-18. Gyimah finished off the set with three straight kills for a 25-19 win. UCLA hit .667 for the frame to .174 for the Matadors.

UCLA put together two points to break a series of early ties and take a 10-8 lead after swings by Younggren and Austin Matautia. The gap grew to 13-9, after kills from Matautia and Younggren, and 16-12, following an ace by Matautia. A kill by Sam Burgi made it 19-13 and a Sam Kobrine swing resulted in a 20-14 advantage. Matautia's fourth and fifth kills of the set pushed the Bruins to match point at 24-18. A CSUN service error ended the set at 25-18.

The Bruins out hit CSUN .421  to .216 for the match. Younggren  hit .700 to lead the way. Mads Kyed Jensen added six kills while hitting .667. UCLA finished with six aces, topped by a pair each from Younggren and Sam Kobrine. The Bruins owned the nets to the tune of 8.5 to 5.5 total blocks, thanks in part to six block assists by Gyimah.  Alex Knight recorded a team-high seven digs.
