Goulak Voted Pac-12 Player of the Week
March 10, 2020 | Women's Tennis
SAN FRANCISCO โ Junior Annette Goulak was selected Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of March 2-8, the league announced Tuesday.
Goulak faced deficits of 0-4, 1-5 and 3-6 in her initial-set tiebreaker with Sara Choy Saturday, but charged back for a 7-6(8), 6-4 result that clinched UCLA's first win at Stanford since 2014 and snapped the Cardinal's regular-season conference winning streak at 38. The 4-1 result was finalized with Stanford players holding third-set leads on both unfinished courts.
Goulak also teamed with Abi Altick to beat Anna Bright/Jessica Zeynel, 6-4, in a make-or-break decision that clinched the doubles point in Friday's 4-3 win at California. The next day, Goulak/Altick cruised to a 6-0 upset of No. 43 Choy/Emma Higuchi of Stanford to get the Bruins off on the right foot.
The Pac-12 Player of the Week award is the first for Goulak, who transferred from the University of Georgia in June 2019. The UCLA women's tennis program has collected 30 total awards. Five Bruins have been recognized this season: sophomore Elysia Bolton (Feb. 4), freshmen Sasha Vagramov (Feb. 11) and Abbey Forbes (Feb. 25) and juniors Abi Altick (March 4) and Goulak.
ALSO NOMINATED: Michaela Bayerlova, WSU; Valentina Ivanov, CAL; Vanessa Wong, WASH; Talya Zan, ARIZ.
