Altick Named Pac-12 Player of the Week
March 04, 2020 | Women's Tennis
SAN FRANCISCO โ Junior Abi Altick of the UCLA women's tennis team was voted Pac-12 Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-March 1, the conference announced Wednesday.
Altick posted a 4-0 record across her singles and doubles matches as UCLA swept local rivals USC and Pepperdine in non-conference action. She capped her perfect weekend Saturday with a 6-1, 7-6 (4) win versus Lisa Zaar that clinched what resulted in a 4-3 team triumph over the No. 11/17 Waves.
Altick and partner Annette Goulak were also responsible for delivering the doubles point to the Bruins in both victories. Friday, the pair defeated Estella Jaeger and Danielle Willson (who Altick later beat in singles play), 6-4, in an all-or-nothing result on the Trojans' home court. Altick/Goulak also knocked off Zaar and Daria Kuczer of Pepperdine Saturday to set the tone.
Altick is the fourth Bruin to be voted Pac-12 Player of the Week this season, joining sophomore Elysia Bolton (Feb. 4) and freshmen Sasha Vagramov (Feb. 11) and Abbey Forbes (Feb. 25). It is the 29th all-time conference honor for the UCLA women's tennis program and second for Altick.
This also marks the ninth time UCLA tennis has swept the Pac-12 Player of the Week awards, as junior Keegan Smith earned the men's honor Wednesday. Altick and Smith accomplished the same feat April 23, 2019.
ALSO NOMINATED: Kirsten Prelle, ARIZ; Haley Giavara, CAL; Eryn Cayetano, USC; Madison Tattini, UTAH; Michaela Bayerlova, WSU
