LOS ANGELES – The UCLA swim and dive and team is scheduled to host its first official events of the 2020-21 this season, as the Bruins will welcome Fresno State for a swim-only dual meet on Friday and Saturday while also hosting the Bruin Diving Invitational from Friday to Sunday.
The two-day meet with Fresno State will serve as the first dual meet of the campaign for UCLA. Events are scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday morning.
The 2021 iteration of the Bruin Diving Invitational will feature competitors from UCLA, UNLV, and Utah. The invite opens up with women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter on Friday starting at approximately 12:35 p.m., followed by women's 3-meter/men's platform on Saturday at approximately 12:35 p.m. and women's platform/men's 1-meter on Sunday at 10:50 a.m.
Each diving competition will consist of both a preliminary and final, separated by a 10-minute break. All divers will advance to the finals in each event. Across all three schools, there are 11 entries on the women's side and six on the men's side. Live results for the Bruin Diving Invitational can be accessed at DiveMeets.com.
The Bruins have competed in just one event to this point in 2020-21, the NAU Lumberjack Diving Invitational from Dec. 4-6. Sophomores Hannah Butler (1M) and Katie Shaheen (3M) each recorded runner-up finishes in Flagstaff, and freshman Aurora Huxman placed sixth on tower to highlight her collegiate debut. That trio will represent UCLA again this weekend.
UCLA is coming off a strong 2019-20 season, posting a 7-3 record in dual meets and finishing fourth at the Pac-12 Championships, the program's highest finish since 2014. The Bruins were set to send five student-athletes to the 2020 NCAA Championships – including returners Butler and Claire Grover – before the season's abrupt cancellation due to COVID-19.
Fresno State has competed once so far in 2020-21, finishing second in a home tri-meet featuring San Diego State and San Jose State on Dec. 4-5.
