Senior forward Michaela Onyenwere of the UCLA women's basketball team has been selected the UCLA Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by Ready, earning honors for Dec. 28-Jan. 3.
Onyenwere scored a career-high 33 points on 12-for-20 shooting from the field and 8-for-8 from the foul line and also grabbed 10 rebounds (four offensive) in No. 11 UCLA's win at No. 8 Oregon on Jan. 3 that snapped the Ducks' 27-game winning streak. The pre-season All-American scored what would prove to be the eventual game-winning basket, putting back her own miss late with 51 seconds remaining to put UCLA ahead, 73-71. Sunday's game was her 27th career double-double, third-career 30+ point game, and eighth-straight game in double figures to start the season.
This is Onyenwere's first UCLA student-athlete of the week award of the season and sixth of her career, leading all active Bruin student-athletes.
