MEN'S BASKETBALL
- Kyle Anderson, F, Memphis Grizzlies – Currently in his seventh NBA season, Anderson has registered career-best averages in points per game (12.8), rebounding (7.1), assists (3.9) and minutes per game (29.1). In two games against San Antonio within the last week, Anderson averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds while connecting on 14 of 22 shots (63.6%). He has scored in double figures in each of his last four games and in eight of 11 games since the start of January.
- Lonzo Ball, G, New Orleans Pelicans – Scored in double figures in two of four games within the past week, averaging 14.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists in those four contests. Ball scored a season-high 27 points (and had eight assists) in New Orleans' win over Milwaukee last Friday. He made 10 of 20 shots in that victory, including 7 of 13 shots from 3-point territory. Ball has averaged 12.5 points, 4.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per game this season.
- Moses Brown, C, Oklahoma City Thunder – Saw action in a pair of games within the last week, totaling four points and five rebounds in 10 minutes. Brown has averaged 3.5 points and 1.8 rebounds in six games for Oklahoma City this season.
- Aaron Holiday, G, Indiana Pacers – Scored in double figures in two of four games within the last week. Registered a season-high 17 points in the Pacers' most recent game (on Sunday, against Philadelphia), making 7 of 11 shots and 2-of-2 attempts from 3-point range. Holiday has averaged 6.7 points and 2.1 assists in 20 games this season, shooting 37.2 percent from the field.
- Jrue Holiday, G, Milwaukee Bucks – Totaled at least 20 points in each of Milwaukee's last three games, including a 22-point and 7-rebound effort on Monday night against Portland (in a 28-point win). Holiday had 21 points on Saturday against Charlotte and finished with 22 points and a season-high nine rebounds versus New Orleans last Friday. Now in his 12th NBA season, Holiday has averaged 16.5 points, 4.9 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 20 games for Milwaukee. In addition, he has shot a career-best 48.3 percent from the field.
- Zach LaVine, G, Chicago Bulls – Now in his seventh NBA season, LaVine has averaged 26.9 points per game (No. 10 in the NBA), 5.3 rebounds and 5.2 assists with Chicago. Through 18 games this year, he has shot a career-best 51.1 percent from the field and a career-high 41.6 percent from 3-point distance. LaVine has scored in double figures in all 18 games, including a 30-point effort last Monday (Jan. 25) against Boston. In his most recent game (Monday, Feb. 1), he registered 21 points and five rebounds as Chicago outlasted the New York Knicks, 110-102.
- Kevon Looney, F, Golden State Warriors – Made 5 of 8 shots through three games within the last week, including a perfect 3-for-3 from the field on Saturday in a win against Detroit (Jan. 30). Looney has averaged 3.7 points and 4.2 rebounds in 20 games with Golden State this season. He has shot 64.6 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from 3-point distance.
- Norman Powell, G, Toronto Raptors – Averaged 25.0 points in a pair of games with Toronto last week. Powell scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds on Wednesday (Jan. 27) against Milwaukee, two days after he finished with 24 points and six rebounds against Indiana. Through both of those games, Powell made 16 of 32 shots (50.0 percent). Through 18 games this season, he has averaged 14.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest.
- Russell Westbrook, G, Washington Wizards – Averaged 28.7 points in three games last week with Washington. Westbrook also had averages of 9.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists in those three contests. He finished with a season-high 41 points in Washington's three-point victory against Brooklyn on Sunday evening (Jan. 31). In the win over the Nets, he made 16 of 28 shots (including 4-of-7 from 3-point distance). Westbrook also had 26 points against Atlanta last Friday (Jan. 29).
- Reggie Cannon, D, Boavista FC – Cannon started at right back in one of Boavista's two games last week. It marked the first time he didn't start a league game since transferring to Boavista from FC Dallas in September 2020.
- Federal Way, Wash. native Kelyn Rowe signed a free agent deal with his hometown club, the Seattle Sounders. Rowe spent last season with New England, making 16 appearances with the Revs, including 10 starts.
- Jackson Yueill started, played 65 minutes, and was on the field for every goal as the U.S. Men's National Team defeated Trinidad and Tobago, 7-0, in an international friendly on Sunday night. It was Yueill's ninth career cap with the senior national team.
- Abby Dahlkemper, D, Manchester City (England) – Dahlkemper made her ManCity debut on Jan. 31, starting in a 4-0 shutout victory over West Ham.
- Jessie Fleming, MF, Chelsea FC (England) – Fleming started for Chelsea FC in a 4-0 victory over Aston Villa on Jan. 27. The win gave Chelsea a new Barclays FA Women's Super League record 32-game unbeaten streak. Fleming helped set up Chelsea's second goal in the 34th minute, finding Sam Kerr out wide before Kerr sent a cross in to Bethany England for the goal. Chelsea extended the unbeaten streak to 33 just four days later with another 4-0 victory, this time over Tottenham Hotspur. Fleming played 29 minutes in the contest.
- Rachel Lowe, MF, Sydney FC (Australia) – Lowe played 22 minutes for Sydney FC in a 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets on Jan. 31. Sydney FC remains atop the W-League with a 4-0 record.
- Teagan Micah, GK, Melbourne City FC (Australia) – Micah made nine saves in a 3-2 loss to Brisbane on Jan. 31 and was named to the W-League's Team of the Week. Additionally, she was again awarded the W-League's Save of the Week after making a leaping save on what looked to be a sure goal by Emily Gielnik in the first half. Micah has made a league-best 27 saves in six appearances.
- Anika Rodriguez, MF, PSV Vrouwen (Netherlands) – Rodriguez played at right back in the second half of a 6-1 victory over PEC Zwolle on Jan. 30. Rodriguez made an impressive defensive stop in the game, rushing back on a breakaway to make a sliding tackle.
- Marcos Giron earned the first of what he hopes will be a plethora of singles wins in Melbourne, as he knocked off fellow American Michael Mmoh, 6-1, 7-5, in a first-round match at the Murray River Open. The Australian Open is scheduled for Feb. 8-21.
- Mackenzie McDonald started his time at the Murray River Open with a 7-6(2), 7-5 victory over 14th-seeded Richard Gasquet of France. A Tuesday meeting with Alex Bolt of Australia is up next. The doubles draw saw McDonald and Tommy Paul take care of Andrés Molteni and Hugo Nys, 6-4, 6-2, setting up a second-round date with Germans Sander Gillé and Joran Vliegen.
- The second-seeded pair of Robin Anderson and Erin Routliffe suffered a 6-3, 6-4 loss to eventual champion Emina Bektas and Tara Moore in first-round doubles action at Georgia's Rome Tennis Open. On the singles side, Anderson dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to American Grace Min in her opening match.
- In advance of the Australian Open (Feb. 8-21), Jennifer Brady and partner Ashleigh Barty, seeded eighth, defeated Sharon Fichman and Giuliana Olmos by a 7-6(2), 6-1 score in their doubles debut at the Yarra Valley Classic in Melbourne. Brady is also set to face off against Svetlana Kuznetsova of Russia in the Grampians Trophy singles draw Tuesday in Melbourne.
- Catherine Harrison and partner Sophia Whittle put together a memorable run at Georgia's Rome Tennis Open, advancing to the doubles semifinal round. The pair eked out a 5-7, 6-3, 1-0(16) victory over Americans Allura Zamarripa and Maribella Zamarippa to reach the quarterfinal round. Next, Harrison/Whittle made an early statement against top-seeded Quinn Gleason and Ingrid Neel of the United States en route to a 6-0, 7-6(6) upset win. Harrison Whittle had their time ended in the ensuing round, however, as Olga Govortsova and Jovana Jovic advanced to the final in another thriller, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0(10).
- Coming off an Abu Dhabi Open run that culminated in their fourth WTA doubles title as partners, Ena Shibahara and Shuko Aoyama are back in action at the Yarra Valley Classic. The third-seeded pair continued its winning ways in the first round, as it dispatched of Ankita Raina and Rosalie Van Der Hoek, 6-2, 7-6(2).
