Commitment to UCLA True Bruin Values

Bruin Athletics

Letter from Martin Jarmond to the Bruin community.

Bruin community,

In light of recent events, I want to be clear that our expectations remain consistent with UCLA True Bruin Values. UCLA Athletics values everyone in our community, and while freedom of speech may protect the right to make offensive statements, we encourage students to exercise their rights in a way that is principled, thoughtful and respectful. Language that denigrates others, especially on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability and similar characteristics, violates UCLA's values of equity, empathy, inclusion and dignity for all. As an athletics community, we want to reiterate our commitment to strive toward an anti-racist, inclusive, equitable environment for student-athletes, staff, alumni and community members.

The physical and mental health and well-being of all student-athletes and staff are a priority during this time.
