New Orleans, La. – Four UCLA Track & Field student-athletes were named Indoor Second-Team All-Americans, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Friday. Junior Shae Anderson and sophomores Catherine Leger, Chinyere Okoro, and Makenzy Pierre-Webster received the national recognition.
Per the USTFCCCA, athletes of member institutions who finished in the top-8 of their respective individual events and relays at the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships this past weekend in Fayetteville, Arkansas, took home First-Team All-America honors, while those who placed ninth through 16th individually and as part of a relay earned Second-Team All-America. The remaining athletes were honorable mention.
The aforementioned quartet took 10th place in the 4x400m relay at NCAA Indoors. The squad crossed with a season-best time of 3:35.23. It was the second-straight season the Bruins qualified for the National Meet in the women's 4x4; the 2020 Championships were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It's the third-career Indoor Second-Team All-America honor, as she took ninth place in the 400m in 2018 (competing for Oregon) and qualified for 2020 Indoor Nationals in the 4x400m relay. Leger and Pierre-Webster collect Second Team honors for the second-straight year, while Okoro picks up her first-career All-America accolade.
